4. Examples for Creative Scale Practice

(Find tabs/notation also from "Downloads" section)

Here my main purpose was to hopefully inspire players to make their own exploration to world of scales.

Numerous scale lesson materials that has occurred to me seem to basis on very technical subjects e.g. positions, patterns, picking and etc. There is no doubt that these subjects are necessary or useful in practicing guitar. Still sometimes it feels that we might get stuck too long period of time in ”practicing-mode” and for that reason it leaves too big gap between actual music and practicing. As we have seen there is an endless amount of technique and theory-based material available. To go through all these subjects it will take also endless amount of time. Also when we keep the main focus on technique-based subjects it might affect to our personal tonal language and that comes to light particularly well in improvisation.

I feel that it’s especially important to spend time for exploring the notes of the scales and find intervals and harmonies that evoke player’s personal taste. In this way player can find new things for him-/herself, diversify tonal language and most importantly connect practicing to making music. In this kind of approach I try to find melodies and harmonies that I feel reasonable and still keeping the beauty of sound and note the most important in my ”aspiration list”.

I wanted to keep speeches sort in this video because my main purpose was to hopefully inspire players to make their own exploration to world of scales.:)
